LETTER 50 · SEA AND SKY
Nos escondimos entre el viento, el llamado de las olas acompañándonos con su conversación. En la distancia vimos un pajarito, su color mixto, pintado por el cielo y la espuma blanca del mar. Allí se bañaba. Allí jugaba con su aleteo, con sus brincos. Y ahí pensaba yo:
Qué simple sería la vida si todos pudiésemos aterrizar solo cuando es necesario, solo para bañar nuestras plumas en el mar, solo para un descanso, solo para un respiro, solo para que una vez más tengamos las energías para simplemente volar.

LETTER 59 · EARTH
Te pensé una vez como princesa. Poco supe yo que eras reina de tu propio castillo. Poco supe que no necesitabas un rescate, que las espadas las cargabas con tus fuerzas, que yo era el dragón, y que al final me cazarías con amor.
"I once thought of you as a princess." She was the queen of her own castle, and he was the dragon.
LETTER 130 · STORM
Quizás te confundí. Quizás lo entendí mal. «Amor de mi vida» pensé que fuiste. Pero quizás te malinterpreté. Quizás fue en la falta de una despedida, en la falta de las razones, de un porqué que tanto tiempo esperé.
«Amor de mi vida» porque no lo pude terminar. «Amor de mi vida» porque desapareciste antes del final. «Amor de mi vida» porque el capítulo nunca acabó. «Amor de mi vida», así quedaste, porque nunca escuché un adiós.
"Love of my life," he realizes, only because it never ended: she disappeared before he ever heard a goodbye.

Las Musas is my first book in Spanish, published in 2019. The letters have no named recipient: each one speaks to a different "you," and together they form a portrait of the people who passed through my life like forces of nature.
If you've read Amor gitano, you already know the last page: "No existe el final" appears there as a preview of this book.

El autor
Pablo Camacho
Nació en Caguas, Puerto Rico, y creció, entre mudanzas, en una familia militar antes de servir él mismo como Marine de los Estados Unidos. Escribe en español e inglés sobre el amor, la pérdida, la fe y todo lo que queda en medio.
Es autor de nueve libros, cuatro de ellos en español, y ha recibido reconocimientos como los International Latino Book Awards y el Literary Titan Book Award. Actualmente escribe sus primeras historias de terror. Vive en Florida con su esposa y su hija.
