FROM THE PUERTO RICAN POET RECOGNIZED BY THE INTERNATIONAL LATINO BOOK AWARDS
THE STORY
Ten years of searching. One last mission. One last kill.
One rainy night, a tourist in a white dress gets lost in the alleys of Old San Juan and vanishes forever. Her husband, Vincent Novikov, is on the other side of the world on a secret military mission when they find her body.
For ten years, Vincent becomes a shadow: the invisible king of the Caribbean drug trade. He isn’t after money. He’s after a name. The name of the serial killer the streets call la Anaconda, who leaves the same note on every victim: Te quiero desde siempre (I’ve loved you forever).
Now he has finally found him. And he calls the only men he trusts: his brothers in arms.
On an island where the flutter of a butterfly’s wings can unleash a hurricane, every thread is connected. And when love mixes with money, the human heart hides corners far darker than anyone imagines. La Anaconda was only the beginning.

When I died in Old San Juan, my last thoughts were of the love of my life, the world we could have had and the world that never was. They were worlds apart that exploded all at once, and I closed my eyes when I couldn’t bear it anymore, when the blinding light of that great detonation finally swallowed the entire universe.
When my spirit awoke, I saw that I had returned here, to one last dimension hidden far from the consuming fire of the end of the world. I arrived like a ghost in a place where my past had been kept, carried back to a life from ten years ago to live it all one last time…
The novel is written in Spanish. The full first chapter is available to read in the original.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Pablo Camacho
Pablo José Camacho Marrero was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Raised in a military family, he followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted, a path that took him across the United States and abroad. The people, moments, and adventures along that road are what inspire his writing most.
His poetry collections Paraíso and Amor gitano received Honorable Mentions at the International Latino Book Awards. With Criaturas salvajes, the poet trades verse for suspense. Because whoever writes best about love also knows what love is capable of.
